232-3355. Skipton and Kettlewell Railway, (Extension to Darlington). December 1882. Printed Postcard, 3" x 4.75", with brown printed half-penny postage stamp. From the Parliamentary Agents, to be completed and returned, for interested parties to indicate approval or otherwise regarding the Notice of Application for an Act of Parliament. It is a quite early date for postcard use of this sort. The card has not been used but is slightly age grubby.

232-3356. Skoda Works Ltd., Praha, Czechoslovakia. Regarding the locomotive series 387 built by the company for the Czechoslovak State Railway. Consisting of official working drawings, a publicity photograph, and a lengthy typed letter in full English text that gives a detailed description of the new 2-C-1 three-cylinder express locomotive and gives particulars of tests carried out over the Prerov and Liben line of the C.S.D. with a 642 ton express train, the 268 kilometre run being covered in 262 minutes. This was written on the 14th June 1930 to their London Agents for passing on to Mr. Brian Reed, the railway historian and author. Being a Headed Company Letter, 11.75" x 8.25", 2 pages + 17 pages, all typed in English. A real photograph, 5" x 11", showing C.S.D. No. 387 007 as newly built, posed left side front. With six fully detailed blue print drawings as used in the construction of the type, these are in all elevations and plan views, exterior and sectional with dimensions, in Czechoslovakian text. Being Company Drawing No. LO 3042, size 32.5" x 68.5", to a scale of 2.5 to 1. Showing the complete front bogie: Drawing LO 3390, 46" x 33", this and those following to a scale of 10 to 1. Showing inside and outside cylinders and valve gear: No LO 3613, 33" x 69", showing the smoke box, boiler and firebox: LO 13067, 37.5" x 62.25", showing main frame assembly and pony truck: LO 3526. 23.5" x 33", showing sectional end views of the complete engine, and footplate view of the backplate and controls: LO 13031, 33" x 69.5", showing the locomotive in plan view at axle level and the exterior side elevation. All drawings are folded. Together with this is a further close-typed, 1.75" x 8.5", 7 page manuscript, giving a technical description of the series 387, probably by Brian Reed and 4 pages of notes in Reeds hand, written in ink, these being somewhat later in date than the original pieces from Skoda and refer to some modifications that were carried out. This collection came sometime from the archive of Mr. Brian Reed and forms an important piece of locomotive history. All is in generally fine condition.
