234-4592. Providence and Worcester Railroad Company. Certificate of Capital Stock, of One Hundred Dollars each. Signed and impressed with the Company Seal but not issued. 7.5" x 10.75", 2 sides. Engraved in an ornate style in green and black on white quality paper by the "American Bank Note Company, New York." Incorporating a very nice vignette showing a 4-4-0 steam locomotive with eight wheel tender and train of bogie passenger stock. Although not issued this has been "Cancelled" by perforated punchings across the signatures of the Company Treasurer and President. Excellent history. Very fine condition.

Picture size 5.5" x 9.5", on an extracted page of The Illustrated London News. 10th August 1850. 15.5" x 10.5". Showing a very detailed perspective view of the huge covered area with the dinner in progress, the important personages at a long high table and the many guests below, there is much bunting and three large pictures on the wall show completed works by Stephenson. Together with "The great central Railway Station at Newcastle-upon-Tyne." 6" x 9", showing an outside view of the newly completed station building. It was inside on the covered area over the tracks that the great dinner was held. Including a quite long text article. Most interesting history. This is without folds in a generally fine condition.

A detailed account of the numerous experiments on steam locomotives that were conducted by the Southern Railway between 1923 and 1948 which culminated in the revolutionary but ultimately unsuccessful "Leader" design by O.V.S. Bullied. Very interesting. Generally very fine condition.

Signed as required. 6.75" x 11", 2 sides. Lithographed in an ornate style on quality paper by "Henry Seibert & Bros., New York." Incorporating a very nice vignette showing a 4-4-0 steam locomotive and four-wheeled tender hauling a train of bogie carriages. Cancelled in writing and by cutting pieces out of the proprietors name. It has further been pasted onto its counterfoil as part of the cancellation. Nice to have a quite early piece in United States railway history. Scarce.

June 1939. 9.75" x 6", 12 pages, including covers which include some artwork, black on green. Giving all services from Dover, Folkestone, Newhaven, Southampton and Gravesend to various parts on the Continent of Europe. Also including fares and further information for travellers and with the short cruises by the S.R. Steamer "St. Briac". The "Golden Arrow", The Midday Rapide, and the Through Sleeping Car train, were some of the special services covered but the outbreak of the Second World War soon brought all to an end. This is a nice informative piece. Very fine condition.

The unrestricted admittance of the correct amount of steam to the cylinder at the exact period has long been a preoccupation of locomotive designers, and many are the arrangements that have been used to obtain maximum efficiency in this direction. Several engineers have been influenced by the practices employed in internal combustion engines and have adapted these, the Meier Mattern system is of this type. Very good history, little has been published on this gear. All in generally fine condition.
