238-2095. Engine No. 405, of the No. 11 class. Arrangement of Brake-work and Alteration of Valve Motion. Manuscript Engineers Drawing, No. 2385. By Gorton Works, circa early 1880s. 22" x 37.5" on linen backed cartridge paper, in black and coloured inks with colour washes in parts, to a scale of 1.5" to one foot. Showing fully detailed side elevation and half-plan views, which includes the valve gear linkage, and counter weight, steam chest and ports, main frame and reversing lever, crank, wheel outline and slide bars, steam brake cylinder and actuating mechanism. With dimensions and constructional notes. Seven of the 0-4-2 class 11 were built at the Sheffield Works in 1874, No. 405 being modified some ten years later at Manchester, to which this drawing relates. Unique, historically important. Slight age grubbiness but without damage, rolled in fine condition.

A combined company cheque and receipt of payment, drawn on The London Joint Stock Bank Limited, Maryport Branch. 6" x 8" printed in an ornamented style and including a "One Penny" Revenue Stamp. Written in May 1912 for a sum of Six Hundred and Twelve pounds and Ten shillings, to be used for the payment of wages. The cheque is signed by the railway company Secretary and Chairman and is also signed on the receipt over a further attached 1d. stamp. First class history. Slight age discolouration but generally fine condition.

Gives timetable and fares from Bradford, Leeds, Wakefield, Barnsley, Sheffield, and intermediate stations, for the five day excursion, together with Thomas Cook through fares to Paris, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Brussels, and others, with details of the journey on from London with choice of routes. A superb full content bill in near mint condition. (I wonder what James Allport would think of the new St Pancras, mind blowing I guess. How times have changed over the intervening 135 years since the issue of this bill. Mary).

238-2123. Family Sleeping Carriage. Carriage Diagram, No. D.458. Derby, Carriage & Wagon Department, Drawing Office. These are archive office copies. 13" x 26", company print to a scale of 4 feet to one inch, showing a semi-detailed side and end elevation, and an interior plan, with major dimensions and notes. This is six wheeled with 2 First Class compartments, 1 Servants compartment, 1 Luggage compartment, 1 Passage, 1 Lavatory and W.C. These are all stock built in the nineteenth century. Each print is rubber stamped "B.R. Derby Drawing Office" and dated 1950s. All are rolled and in very fine condition.
